“Consensus in Film” kicks off with an Exchange and Discussion Day on 25 October 2025 at Frankfurter Salon
On Saturday, 25 October 2025, Filmhaus Frankfurt will launch the project “Consensus in Film,” which aims to improve collaboration in the film industry despite barriers such as migration background, family responsibilities, or disability. The opening event will be a free gathering at Frankfurter Salon (Braubachstraße 32, 60311 Frankfurt am Main) for film enthusiasts and professionals with and without barriers. The results will be published and will form the basis of a virtual networking platform. The long-term goal is to create a network that promotes the participation of filmmakers with migrant backgrounds, disabilities, or family obligations – both in the region and beyond.
Despite various efforts, the film industry is still not diverse enough and offers few opportunities to combine migration background, family, or disability with active filmmaking. The project “Consensus in Film” brings together film lovers and film professionals in constructive exchange, aiming to mediate between different life realities. It thrives on the participation of the public and those affected and seeks to enable access for as many participants as possible. The goal is to highlight needs, develop solutions, and, in the long term, build a self-organized network.
An essential part of the project is the involvement of coach Uwe Lübbermann and the application of the principle of consensus democracy. This approach ensures that decisions are made with the consent of all participants, thereby fostering equality, transparency, and co-determination while dismantling traditional hierarchies.
“Consensus in Film” begins with the free Exchange and Discussion Day on Saturday, 25 October 2025 at Frankfurter Salon. After keynote lectures on the topics of Migration Background & Language Barriers, Family & Work, and Inclusion, the subjects will be further explored in an open fishbowl discussion. Under the guidance of Uwe Lübbermann, experiences and challenges will be shared, and solutions developed together. The documented results will be published on a virtual platform (Discord) and, with six months of support from Filmhaus Frankfurt and Uwe Lübbermann, will form the foundation for a network that sustainably provides exchange, contacts, intersectional working groups, and shared knowledge.
“Consensus in Film” is a long-term project of Filmhaus Frankfurt that seeks to improve collaboration in the film industry despite barriers. Filmhaus Frankfurt and the participating institutions deliberately see the project, beginning on 25 October, as a first step to clearly name existing problems and create a solid foundation for ongoing engagement in the areas addressed.
